- Maryland wins Atlantic Coast Conference championship.
- Maryland plays then #5 Florida in the FedEx Orange Bowl.
- Maryland finishes season ranked #11 in the final AP poll.
- Ralph Friedgen wins Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year award.
2002
- Maryland ranked #20 in the preseason AP poll.
- Maryland defeats then #14 NC State, 24-21.
- Maryland defeats Tennessee in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, 30-3.
- Maryland finishes season ranked #13 in the final AP poll.
2003
- Maryland ranked #15 in the preseason AP poll.
- Maryland defeats then #20 West Virginia in the Toyota Gator Bowl, 41-7.
- Maryland finishes season ranked #17 in the final AP poll.
2004
- Construction completed on expansion of the renamed Gossett Football Team House.
- Maryland ranked #22 in the preseason AP poll.
- Maryland defeats then #5 Florida State, 20-17.

- Terrapins Rising, a first of its kind reality television show chronicling spring practice giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of a major college football program, debuted on June 25.
- Maryland defeats then #10 Rutgers, 34-24.

- Maryland defeats then #8 Boston College, 42-35.

- Construction begins on the expansion of Tyser Tower in Byrd Stadium.
- Maryland plays Oregon State in the Emerald Bowl.
